What is the NDIS?

Support designed around you

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government program that provides funding to people with permanent and significant disability. It's designed to help you live a more independent life, achieve your goals, and participate in your community.

Unlike previous disability support systems, the NDIS is individualised — your plan is built around your specific needs, goals, and circumstances. You choose the supports and providers that work best for you.

The NDIS is managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). As a registered NDIS provider, Greater Possibilities Support works within the NDIS framework to deliver the supports in your plan.

NDIS funding categories

How your plan funding works

NDIS funding is divided into support categories. Each category covers different types of support. Here are the categories most relevant to GPS services:

01
Core Supports

Assistance with Daily Life

Covers support with personal care, household tasks, and daily living activities. This is the category that funds our Daily Living Support service.

04
Core Supports

Assistance with Social, Economic & Community Participation

Funds support to help you access community activities, social events, and recreational programs. This covers our Community Access service.

02
Core Supports

Transport

Provides funding for transport to help you get to appointments, activities, and community events. This funds our Wheelchair Transport service.

SIL
Capital Supports

Supported Independent Living

A specialist funding category for people who need support to live as independently as possible, either alone or with others. Requires a separate SIL assessment.

Not sure which category covers your needs? Our team can help you understand your plan and identify the right funding categories for the supports you need. Just get in touch.

Getting started with GPS

Four simple steps to get started

01

Check your eligibility

To access the NDIS, you need to be under 65, an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and have a permanent disability that significantly affects your daily life. Visit the NDIS website or call 1800 800 110 to check your eligibility.

02

Get your NDIS plan

Once approved, you'll have a planning meeting with the NDIA to develop your plan. Your plan will outline your goals and the funding available for each support category. Bring a support person if it helps.

03

Contact GPS

Once you have your plan, get in touch with us. We'll have a friendly, no-pressure conversation about your goals and how our services can support you. We'll explain exactly how we work and what to expect.

04

Sign a service agreement

If you're happy to proceed, we'll set up a service agreement that outlines the supports we'll provide, the hours, and the rates. Everything is transparent — no hidden fees or surprises.

Plan management

How is your NDIS plan managed?

Agency managed

The NDIA pays providers directly from your plan. You can only use registered providers like GPS.

Plan managed

A plan manager handles payments on your behalf. You can use both registered and unregistered providers.

Self managed

You manage your own funding and pay providers directly. You have the most flexibility in choosing providers.

GPS works with all three plan management types. We'll work with your plan manager or the NDIA to handle the billing side — you just focus on your goals.
